Ever wonder what it’s like to live in a house full of boys? Imagine living inside a never-ending action movie…with zero plot but plenty of sound effects. Here’s a little peek into a typical day in my life as a boy mom – told entirely through the sounds that echo through my house (and head).

6:45 AM – “THUMP”

That’s the sound of someone jumping off the bed, despite me repeatedly saying “at least have the light on before you jump around in there!” It’s followed immediately by:

“MOOOOOOOOOOM!”

Not a request. Not a question. Just….volume.

7:15 AM – “Bzzzzzzz, ZAP, POW”

They’re brushing their teeth…but somehow it’s turned into a battle scene involving electric toothbrushes and toothpaste missiles. The sink is foaming. So is my patience.

7:45 AM – “CRUNCH, SLURP, SLAP.”

Breakfast time. Cereal everywhere, milk in places milk should never be, and someone’s chewing like it’s their full-time job.

8:05 AM – “STOMP….STOMP….”

“Wheres my other shoe?” Spoiler: Its exactly where its supposed to be..

9:30 AM – “VRRRROOOOOM!” …crash ….maniacal laughter

The living room has become a racetrack. Im unsure who’s winning. I know one thing… the dog is losing.

12:15 PM – “huuuugh…uugghh” *fake vomit noises

“Mommmm he farted in my face” Must be lunchtime. Served with a side of sibling warfare and aroma-based complaints.

2:30 PM – “ZING! POP! Pew Pew Pew!”

A Nerf war breaks out during “quiet time” no one remembers why it started but it ends when someone accidentally shoots themselves in the face.

4:00 PM “BOOM!”

……….think that was the laundry basket tipping over…..maybe?

6:00 PM “Nom nom nom”

My boys now just walk around saying nom nom when they’re hungry. Followed by Do I have to eat that? Can I have ketchup with my spaghetti? …. Dinner is served and so are the opinions.

7:45 PM – “Whee! Whack! Giggle giggle SPLASH!”

They’re supposed to be showering, but its more like water fights and now the bathroom looks like a tropical storm blew through it.

8:30 PM – “ZZzzzzzz”

Wait…did you hear that? That’s silence. Beautiful rare silence. They’re asleep and even the dog is wiped.

and mom? “Gulp, Swoosh, Bliss”

I’m curled up on the couch with a glass of something calming, marveling at how loud and exhausting and hilarious this life is. Because being a boy mom means noise, chaos, endless snack requests, and somehow – joy woven through it all.
